BlendedLearningWhether a new literacy resource, a multi-media, or a resource to support your Moodle course design, let’s share a resource and talk about it in this blog.

  1. First, tell us why you chose the resource.
  2. Next, provide us with a link to the resource and a brief description of it.
  3. Explain how the resource works effectively, or has the potential to work effectively in your Moodle design, or in support of it.

If you like these resources, check out our Shop at www.literacysolutions.net and go to the Flipped Classroom folder to purchase materials that support blended learning. Materials can be purchased for as little as $3.95 per folder.

Literacy Without Limits is a great literacy resource. I chose this website to share because it is easy to navigate and provides differentiated lessons for immediate implementation. http://www.literacywithoutlimits.org/ provides teachers with grade level and classroom modeling resources for literacy. It spans grade levels 4-12 and provides additional resources such as scaffolding strategies and ways to plan for struggling learners. It has the potential to work effectively with struggling learners because the strategies and resources are applicable to classrooms across many grade levels.

Colorincolorado is a great resource for lessons and resources for teachers and families. I chose this site http://www.colorincolorado.org/literacy-instruction-ells because it is so user friendly and recognized for its quality resources. It can be used for K-12 too.

I enjoy pulling reading articles from read works. This is a literacy website that offers a wide range of reading resources. http://www.readworks.org/ I will use this website for different reasons. If I need a paired text I can easily look it up by standard here. I can simply post a link for students to click on and read and answer the questions. I can post a reading passage on my smart board and do a whole group lesson. Or I can differentiate and pull different leveled texts for my small groups. I have also pulled a summer reading packet to send home to keep students reading over the summer. This is a great resource and is to use.

For primary grade students, one resource that helps them with phonics is Alphablocks, a British animated video series that teaches children about each letter sound and how they form words. Through the songs and animated videos it helps pre-school and primary students learn the alphabet, spelling, reading and writing. It reaches all multiple intelligences and ELLs can relate to the visuals and songs. I have the link in you tube and you can choose which video goes with your lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCvtMzUL0lw&t=4s&index=1&list=PLwpllXIpILiWhMCxXETYfmJyqBWOx7-l5. Enjoy!

A great literacy resource is the SPIRE program. The SPIRE Reading Program is an intensive, and multisensory reading program that integrates phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and handwriting. I use this in my intensive reading program, and it really makes a difference. https://eps.schoolspecialty.com/landing/spire

ReadWorks.org has passages for all grade levels. Passages can be accessed through a grade level or topic search. Many passages have suggestions for a paired text. Comprehension questions are provided as well as an answer key. Many of the passages have questions requiring written responses. The passages can be easily implemented in a classroom and levels differentiated as needed. Students can read a passage on the same topic, but have different levels of text while practicing the same grade level standard. Vocabulary can be developed as students work through expository text.
