Mathematics copyWe all know the challenges of close reading for teachers in teaching, and for students in reading closely, especially for those who struggle, already challenged with reading below grade-level. Let’s pool and share ideas and resources for teaching close reading with struggling readers in mind: lesson ideas, strategies, strategy guides, graphic organizers, and materials with wide reading and writing opportunities for students who struggle – I’ll start with my own here:

I like to use Reading A-Z (Raz-kids). It is a paid subscription but it is so worth it. There is a plethora of choices at different levels available. You can assign leveled texts to each student in your classroom and not only can they listen to the story being read to them, but some texts are even offered in a Spanish version also. It's so rewarding to watch my students progress from one level to the next within a school year.
